Source text - English These days many look around and go "Whatever happened to responsibility?" Both the government and companies are busy blaming their worst outcomes on the citizens.
Let's go back to the global financial crisis of 2008. AIG (after recording a record-high loss of $6.2 trillion in Q4) after being the beneficiary of a large government-scale bailout, rewarded those responsible with massive bonuses. The idea was to make sure the executives, however incompetent they could be, shouldn't leave the company in pursuit of better options. Maybe that was the best solution for AIG at that time.
The highest-paying 20 executives returned their bonuses amidst the public's criticism, raising the issue of fairness. But a quarter failed to do so.
Translation - Korean 요즘은 주변을 돌아보고 “도대체 책임감은 어디로 간 거야?”하고 되묻는 상황이 많아졌다. 정부와 기업 모두가, 자기들의 잘못 때문에 생긴 최악의 결과를 국민 탓으로 돌리는 데 급급하다.

Source text - Korean 캄보디아 형사법은 성폭행을 범죄로 성추행을 경범죄로 분류하고 있다. 그러나 미성년자와 합의된 성행위를 하는 것에 대한 법적규정은 제시하고 있지 않다. 성폭행에 대한 처벌과 예방에 대한 정부의 구체적인 정책은 없는 것으로 나타나고 있다.
성폭행에 대한 효력 있는 대응을 방해하는 요소로는 관련 처벌법이 미흡한 것과 법집행자(판사, 검사, 변호사, 경찰)들에 의한 법의 잘못된 해석, 면죄, 부정부패 등이 원인으로 제시되고 있다.
성폭력 피해자에 대한 무관심과 법집행자와 가해자 사이의 부정거래는 피해자들로 하여금 입법제도에 대한 불신을 갖게 하고 있다. 성폭행의 경우 캄보디아에서 법정소송이 진행되는 경우라도 피고인의 유죄가 판명이 쉽지 않아, 가해자가 체포되는 경우가 드물다. 또한 성폭행은 여성과 성에 대한 캄보디아의 사회적 문화적 관점으로 인해, 가장 잘 인정되지 못하는 범죄이기도 한다.
Translation - English The criminal law of Cambodia categorizes sexual assault as a major crime and sexual harassment as a misdemeanor. However, they do not have a legal regulation for having consensual sexual relations with minors. There are no governmental policies on punishment and prevention of sexual crimes. The factors that get in the way of effective response towards sexual assault include the fact that the related laws are often just a slap in the wrist and the law enforcers (judges, prosecutors, attorneys and police) make wrong interpretation on the law, acquittal and corruption.
Indifference towards victims and illegal deals made between law enforcers and perpetrators make the victims lose trust in the legislative system. For cases of sexual assault, it is not easy to declare someone guilty in Cambodia even during the lawsuit, so the criminals are rarely arrested. Also, due to the country’s inadequate sociocultural perspectives towards women and sex, sexual violence is one of the least acknowledged crimes in Cambodia.

Source text - Korean 미니멀한 모노크롬 회화인 ‘실버 페인팅’으로 해외 미술계의 떠오르는 신예 스타로 주목 받고 있는 미국 작가 제이콥 케세이의 신작, 〈Jacob Kassay〉전이 오는 5월 10일부터 6월 26일까지 리안갤러리 서울에서 개최된다.
케세이는 회화와 조각은 물론 인터랙티브한 설치미술 등 다양한 매체를 통해 작품과 작품, 작품과 그 작품이 위치하는 공간과의 상호작용을 야기하여 그에 반응하는 관객의 지각경험을 극대화시키는 실험을 지속하고 있다. 특히 이번에 선보이는 신작은 극도로 단순화된 형태의 흰색 모노크롬 회화이지만 회화 고유의 매체 특성을 넘어 조각적 특성을 수용함으로써 미니멀리즘의 계보를 잇는 동시에 회화라는 매체가 갖는 한계를 극복하고자 하는 작가의 노력을 엿볼 수 있다. 실제로 작가는 환경에 자연스럽게 어우러지는 작품을 만들기 위해 페인팅을 선택했다고 한다. 또한 회화 그 자체만을 다루기보다는 회화가 위치하게 될 장소의 여러 가지 흥미를 끄는 요소들에 대한 반응을 회화에 접목시켜 실현시키고 있다고 밝힌 바 있다. 여기에서 흥미를 끄는 요소란 전시 공간의 건축적 환경, 빛의 조건 등을 들 수 있는데, 이전의 실버 페인팅에서는 은색 표면에 나타나는 빛의 작용과 관객, 건축 공간의 반사이미지가 작품의 가변적 성격을 두드러지게 한 반면, 이번 작품에서는 오로지 형태의 상호작용과 그 지각 잠재성에 강조점을 두었다.
Translation - English Jacob Kassay, a rising American artist in the foreign art world known for his minimal monochrome ‘silver painting,’ will showcase his newest drawings in the exhibition at the LEEAHN Gallery Seoul scheduled from May 10th from June 26th.
Kassay has been experimenting on the maximization of perceptive experiences by creating the interaction between artwork and artwork and artwork with the space through various means including drawing, sculpture and interactive installation art. His new pieces, although white monochrome drawings with the simplest of forms, well highlights the artist’s effort to overcome the traditional limitations of drawings and carry on with the legacy of minimalism by accepting the characteristics of the sculpture and stepping over the original characteristics of painting. In fact, Kassay has chosen painting in order to create artwork that blends in well with the nature. Also, he has stated that he is adding various factors of interest to painting and the space, rather than dealing solely with the paintings. Here, the factors of interest include the architectural environment of the display space and lighting conditions. Previously, the reflected images of light, audiences and architectural space shown on the silver exterior of the silver paintings highlighted the variable uniqueness of the artwork. On the other hand, the new pieces mainly highlight the interaction among forms and their perceptive potentials.
