김인철 기자 = 한국 테니스 유망주인 건국대 정석영(19· 건국대 사범대학 체육교육1)이 남자프로테니스(ATP) 챌린저 닝보오픈(총상금 5만 달러)에서 준우승을 차지했다.
세계 랭킹 494위인 정석영은 16일 중국 저장성 닝보에서 열린 대회 마지막 날 단식 결승에서 페터 고요프지크(204위·독일)에게 0-2(3-6 1-6)로 아쉽게 패해 준우승에 그쳤지만 세계 랭킹 포인트 48점을 추가했다.
이번 대회 예선을 거쳐 본선에 오른 정석영은 1회전에서 양쭝화(220위·대만), 3회전에서 장쩌(167위·중국), 준결승에서 우디(202위·중국)를 연파하며 결승까지 진출하는 파란을 일으켰다. (사진=건국대학교 제공)

A rising tennis player Jeong Suk-young, a 19-year-old sports education student at Konkuk University in Korea, took 2nd place in the ATP Challenger at the Ningbo International Tennis open (a total prize of $50,000).
Jeong Suk-young, ranked 494th in the world, lost 0-2 (3-6 1-6) to Peter Gojowczyk of Germany in the final of the singles competition in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, on the 16th, but added 48 world ranking points.
It was sensational to see Jeong Suk-young’s play all the way to the final round by defeating Yang Tsung Hua (ranked 220th, from Taiwan) in the first round, Zhang Ze (ranked 167th, from China) in the third round, and Wu Di (ranked 202, from China) in the semifinal.
