Designer’s furniture collection to launch at April ‘19 market

HIGH POINT – High-end home furnishings resource Theodore Alexander will team with designer Alexa Hampton for a comprehensive furniture collection.
The collection, which will incorporate case goods, upholstery and accessories, will debut next year at April High Point Market.
“We are very excited to be working with the talented Alexa Hampton and welcome her to her new home at Theodore Alexander,” said Neill Robinson, president of Theodore Alexander USA.
Alexa Hampton, daughter of the late Mark Hampton, took the helm at Mark Hampton LLC, the firm founded in 1976 by the late designer, upon his death in 1998.
Under Alexa Hampton’s stewardship, the firm continues to design for domestic and international projects, from New York to the South of France and to China, including apartments and large residences, private airplanes and yachts.
“Alexa’s love and passion for design is contagious,” said Gregory Heller, chief creative officer at Theodore Alexander, “Her design sensibility and timeless style is exactly what consumers are desiring. We look forward to our collaboration with such an amazing talent.”
A perennial member of Architectural Digest’s AD100, Alexa Hampton’s work is classic and eclectic. She is on the board of trustees for the New York School of Interior Design, the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the Institute for Classical Architecture. She was one of the three inaugural designers who launched Gilt Groupe’s Gilt Home Design Boutiques, serves on the design board of MyDeco.com and was the only ever female cast member of “This Old House,” and was a co-host of PBS’ “Find.” Over the years, Hampton’s work has been featured in numerous national and international shelter and design magazines.
Her awards include an honorary PhD from Moore College of Art and Design, Cosmopolitan’s Fun Fearless Female Award, Connecticut Cottage & Gardens’ Design Innovator Award and the Hyland Award for Interior Design. She was the first woman to receive the Design Icon Award at Las Vegas’ World Market Center in 2013. In 2014, Hampton was an honoree of the Women’s Venture Fund and received a Crystal Kylin Award from the China Interior Design Association, one of the top honors of the design industry in that country. In 2015, Hampton was honored with the Visionary Woman Award by Moore College and The New York School of Interior Design presented Hampton with an honorary PhD in May of 2016 at its 100th anniversary graduation ceremony. This past year, Hampton was honored by both the Decorator’s Club and by The Alpha Workshops for her leadership in the field of design.
Hampton is the author of two books: “The Language of Interior Design” and “Decorating in Detail.” She also is a contributing columnist for the Wall Street Journal’s Saturday “Off Duty” section. She frequently lectures on design around the country and internationally.
“Working with Theodore Alexander is an exciting new step for me to grow and evolve my design business,” Hampton said. “It is also a unique opportunity to feed my endless drive to design and make beautiful furniture.”
Hampton and the Mark Hampton brand have a long history of collaborating on high-end furniture. A partnership with Hickory Chair began in 1988 with the late Mark Hampton and continued with Alexa Hampton in 2005. After introducing multiple collections with both efforts, Alexa Hampton and Hickory Chair parted ways amicably in April after a 30-year relationship with the Hampton brands.

I am a
professional educator and translator with experience of 20+ years of teaching
in the field of English language learning and linguistics. I specialized in
teaching translation and in translation studies as well as functional
linguistics. I have also extensive experience as a research supervisor. At
various points in time, I was responsible for curriculum development of several
aspects of English language learning for senior students (translation, writing,
grammar, conversation practice). My job also required writing research papers
and textbooks. Since I moved to the UK in 2020, I am now looking to continue my
career in the field of education in the new environment.
I worked at
the Faculty of Philology (the Department of English and Translation) of St.
Petersburg University, Russia, from September 1992 to April 2020, starting as
assistant lecturer and going up to being senior reader. I specialized in
teaching translation and translation studies as well as functional linguistics.
My responsibilities also included research supervision of bachelor and then
master's degree students. I was for 10 years responsible for curriculum
development in writing and translation for senior students, specializing in
translation. My job also required writing research papers and textbooks.
I was also
actively engaged by the University as a translator and in a lesser degree as an
interpreter on contractual basis. I translated research papers and theses
(social studies, economics, business administration, history of accounting,
literature, languages, mineralogy, chemistry, geology), both from and into
English, university promotional materials (guides, brochures, ads, website
materials), documents (cooperation agreements, local regulations, partnership
contracts, licensing agreements, the University Charter, student documents,
etc.), research conference materials (announcements, schedules, programmes, research
paper abstracts), as well as providing translation editing services.
In the last
15 years, I have also worked on a freelance basis with private clients outside
the university, mainly translating marketing materials, product catalogues,
instruction manuals. The principal areas here were the arts, publishing and
furniture industry. Some marketing materials required an extensive copywriting
approach.
