Dec 11, 2022 (posted via ProZ.com):  After translating a few children's books, I'm working on a text about EU law on animal by-products such as heads of poultry and different methods of stunning and killing cows, what a treat for a vegetarian! But I'm rather good at it. I'm also translating my own hysterical political and mythologival poems from Polish into English and the other way round ...more, + 4 other entries »

Polish to English: MÓJ WYWIAD Z SOSNĄ / INTERVIEW WITH A PINE TREE
General field: Art/Literary
Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - Polish
MÓJ WYWIAD Z SOSNĄ
– jestem człowiekiem –
mówię do zgiętej sosny
– bardzo mi przykro –
odpowiada szumiąco –
to musi być męczące
– jeszcze jak – mówię –
całe to zarządzanie
też drzewostanem
kogo wyciąć najbardziej
korzystnie klimatycznie?
– dla nas tu raczej
stanowczo zbyt upalnie
na gałęziach już
ptaków siada coraz mniej
– więc co posadzić? - pytam
– to złe pytanie –
szumi ta krzywa sosna
– lepiej zapytać
kto zechce tu wyrosnąć?
wystarczy obserwować
Translation - English
INTERVIEW WITH A PINE TREE
– i’m homo sapiens –
i say to a crooked pine –
– i am sorry to hear that –
rustles the tree back to me
– it must be an awful drag
– it is – i agree –
all that management of things –
including the trees
which should be cut down and which
should survive the rising heat?
– it’s too hot for us already
we’re moving north
very few birds build
nests in our branches and holes
– what should we plant then? – i ask
– it’s a wrong question –
rustles the twisted pine tree
– it’s better to ask
who will want to grow roots here?
just wait and observe

Bio

I'm a certified translator of English and German
from Poland, based in Poland (near Częstochowa). I have a PhD in applied linguistics
from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, and over 15 years’
experience as a freelancer. I specialise in legal, business and official documents,
but I have also translated a few books - one was about ghosts and another about
concentration camps, which makes me an all-rounder I guess, except for most technical
and medical texts, which I usually don’t understand properly even in my native
language, though I’m familiar with the automotive industry, chemistry and some
metallurgy. I'm also a poet and climate fiction writer, still trying to write a bestseller, but I've already been published in a local literary magazine.
