WWF today welcomes the ambition of a new government consultation on heat and energy saving, which could lead to many homes in England and Wales receiving a green makeover and reducing their CO2 emissions.
The UK’s existing housing stock is responsible for 27% of the country’s total CO2 emissions, so we welcome the government’s emphasis on tackling the energy efficiency of our homes as a positive step forward in the battle against climate change.
The Heat and Energy Saving Consultation, published today, outlines a number of measures which would help more homeowners insulate their homes and save money on their heating bills. These include plans to give one quarter of all homes a full energy makeover by 2020, and the extension of home energy audits to all homes.

Το WWF υποδέχεται σήμερα με ευχαρίστηση τη νέα κυβερνητική διαβούλευση για την εξοικονόμηση θερμότητας και ενέργειας, που μπορεί να οδηγήσει στο οικολογικό «λίφτινγκ» πολλών σπιτιών στην Αγγλία και την Ουαλία, καθώς και στη μείωση του διοξειδίου του άνθρακα που εκπέμπουν.
Οι ήδη υπάρχουσες κατοικίες του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου ευθύνονται για το 27% των συνολικών εκπομπών διοξειδίου του άνθρακα, γι’ αυτό και μας χαροποιεί η έμφαση που δίνει η κυβέρνηση στην αντιμετώπιση της ενεργειακής απόδοσης των οικιών μας ως ένα θετικό βήμα στη μάχη κατά της κλιματικής αλλαγής.
Η Διαβούλευση για την Εξοικονόμηση Θερμότητας και Ενέργειας, η οποία δημοσιεύτηκε σήμερα, περιγράφει συνοπτικά έναν αριθμό μέτρων τα οποία θα βοηθήσουν περισσότερους ιδιοκτήτες σπιτιών να μονώσουν τα σπίτια τους και να εξοικονομήσουν χρήματα από το λογαριασμό της θέρμανσης.
