German term

AO-Vermittler

German to English Marketing Insurance
For a large insurance company, the header is
"Direct Insurance and AO-Vermittler"
I know that Vermittler means "brokers" but what does AO stand for?

Discussion

Richard L. Weiss Jul 20, 2009:
I did enter agreement with sibsab on his answer, Cristina (I just wanted to acknowledge you as well, so I wrote a note here). Sibsab, I think tamara chose before the latest posts were made, and there was some sort of delay in the system. I also sent an email directly to tamara about this and now I have edited the glossary entry to reflect your and Cristina's answers. My apologies.
Sabine Akabayov, PhD Jul 20, 2009:
@Tamara Did you actually read all the answers and comments?
@ Rlweiss Hello Rlweiss, an 'agree' is usually expressed by peer agreement under the related Answer.
Richard L. Weiss Jul 20, 2009:
I agree with Cristina and sibsab.

I withdraw this answer in favor of sibsab's analysis.
disagree Sabine Akabayov, PhD : your link doesn't relate in any way to "AO-Vermittler", AO has nothing to do with special risk, see for example Cristinas answer

That was based on an assumption of ausserordentlich. I should have explained that the reference is to an insurance company that refers to itself as "special risk brokers" -for a letterhead type term. By no means should googling indicate high confidence.
disagree Cristina Bufi Poecksteiner, M.A. : ???? - In your Answer there is no mention of ***AO = Ausschließlichkeitsorganisation***, which you after entered in the glossary.

My apologies, Cristina, you are correct. My answer was wrong. If I could withdraw it, I would. It was an accident that the glossary entry was given to me. The best I could do is enter the correct entry in the glossary.

AO = Ausschließlichkeitsorganisation

neutral Richard L. Weiss : Yes, your German is correct, but she was asking for the English translation of the German "AO-Vermittler."

exclusive agent

EXCLUSIVE AGENT:
AO steht fuer Ausschließlichkeitsorganisation, wie Christina schon angegeben hat.
AO-Vermittler = Ausschließlichkeitsvermittler
has nothing to do with "special risk"
Definition (see link):
a captive agent, or a person who represents only one insurance company and is restricted by agreement from submitting business to any other company unless it is first rejected by the agent’s company. (See Captive agent)
Note from asker:
I actually liked Captive Agent the best. Sorry for the delay in answering. I have been working non-stop under deadlines. I am very very grateful for the input and it has helped me tremendously! I like captive agent and exclusive agent, but I think captive has a more sophisticated "ring" to it, plus it fit quite nicely in my text. Thanks again!
Peer comment(s):

agree Richard L. Weiss : Agree. I would say "Exclusive Broker."

neutral Cristina Bufi Poecksteiner, M.A. : If you agree with my Answer, why to insert a new Answer?
The Asker asked: "what does AO stand for?".
My Answer: "AO stands in German for 'Ausschließlichkeitsorganisation'".

because you didn't provide a translation//but it's still a German-English question
