I'm considering registering for the Conference in June and I'm sure I'm not the only one with some questions, so I'd rather they were aired here. Of course, I'll raise a support ticket if you prefer.

1) Language

I see that English is going to be used for the opening ceremony, but what about other events? As a non-speaker of Portuguese this could have an important bearing on what I get out of this conference.

2) Content

I see that quite a number of sessions are reserved for sponsors, in fact one of the three rooms will be reserved exclusively for them. Is this a change from previous conferences?

Wll you be able to provide any details (even sketchy) about sessions before the end of the year? I'd rather benefit from the special offer than pay more later, but it's difficult to commit to a large expense with so little information.

3) Participation

Will partners be able to attend the gala dinner? Would they be able to attend the lunches? Personally, I like to make these events the opportunity for a short holiday with my husband around the working sessions.

4) Pricing

You've specified a special end-of-year price. But what will the "normal" price be after 1st Jan 2013? Only when I know what the saving is can I make an informed decision about whether to book before all the information becomes available.

Language for International Proz conference Dec 22, 2012

Regarding Q 1) & Q 3)

It seems that English is the language used during International conferences.
I was in Budapest (2007) and all the sessions were held in English, not Hungarian

Spouses could join for the final gala diner on a riverboat - when registering and paying extra for it of course.
Lunch breaks were for conference participants only.

Other diners or powwows could be attended by whoever wanted to join, they were not included in the package.

This is very different from the Regional conferences, where the majority of the sessions are held in the local language. For instance in Lyon (September 2012) almost all sessions were in French with just one or two in English.

I agree with you regarding your other questions : difficult to decide to sign up for an event with so little information.

You can have a look at past International conferences on the website to get an idea.

Thanks for that. I've been to a few conferences but they were all in France and I can't actually remember which language the sessions were in. But they weren't international ones and I can see that might make a difference.

Very good points indeed, Sheila. I browsed through the conference pages a couple of times thinking it is just me not seeing something, before I finally realized there is no real program. while January 1 has indeed been indicated as the end date of early bird pricing.
I haven't been to ProZ international conferences for a while, and I would probably like to attend this one, but how can our colleagues who organize it expect early payment without any program announced? I just can't get it.
Your fourth point is also important, but the program is the key point for me.

Additional information regarding ProZ.com 2013 international conference in Porto, POR Dec 23, 2012

Good day Shelia

Thanks so much for your interest in the upcoming ProZ.com conference in Porto, POR. Some basic answers to your queries are below:

1) Language - the language of the annual ProZ.com international conference in English. Only smaller regional conferences are held in the language of location of the event. While there may be a few Portuguese sessions, at least 90% of the program will be in English.

2) Content - the call for speakers for the Porto conference is still open right now and as such the program is still in the process of being created.

Regarding the inclusion of sponsored sessions, these spaces are currently being held in anticipation of various companies signing on as event sponsors. Usually the international conference includes 2 tracks of sessions, the Porto event organizers had the flexibility to add a third track to be used for sponsor sessions. Attendees will always have a choice of at least one other session whenever a sponsored session would be running, which is in line with general procedures for ProZ.com events.

3) Participation - There will be an opportunity for non-translator partners to pay a lower price and be included in meals and of course the gala dinner.

4) Pricing - the end of year pricing was simply an additional discount that the event organizers wanted to extend to those who know for sure at this time they will be attending the conference. After January 1st the pricing will increase to the "Early Bird" pricing (€220 EURO for members/€240 EURO for non-members) which will be available until April 15th. The program will be made available well in advance of the end of the Early bird pricing.

Thanks again for your interest in ProZ.com events.

Regards,

Leslie MacFadyen

Dear Vicenzo,

Thanks for your interest in attending the conference, and my apologies for the delay here.

It has not yet been determined if a one-day pass option will be available for those interested in attending the conference. Once regular pricing for the event is available (this should be around April 15), staff will be better able to assess if one-day passes will be feasible.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Maria
