Source text - Japanese エジプトやメソポタミアの古代文字はとうに滅んでしまったが、漢字だけは4000年近い歴史を持っている。その複雑なシステムは文明の近代化のさまたげになると言われてきたが、先端的なコンピュータ化によってその豊かな情報表現力が再評価された。漢字の不思議な生命力に敬意をこめて作ったポスター。
Translation - English While the ancient scripts of Egypt and Mesopotamia have long disappeared, the Chinese kanji characters can look back on a history of almost 4,000 years. Although it has been said that this complex system is only obstructing the modernization of civilization, the advent of advanced computer technology has brought along a reevaluation of these characters’ rich informational expressiveness. This poster pays homage to the magic vital force of kanji.

Source text - Japanese 話し相手もなく退屈であったので、源氏は丘の斜面に出かけ、夕暮れの濃い霞に包まれて、柴の生垣までぶらぶら歩いて行った。お付きの者たちは隠者の洞窟にもどり、ただ惟光だけがいっしょだった。源氏が立っているのとは反対の、建物の西側に一人の尼が勤行をしていた。簾は少し上げられ、仏像には花が供えてある。尼は中柱の近くに腰を下ろし、経をかたわらの腰掛け（脇息）にのせ、声を上げて経を読んでいた。その顔はとても悲しそうに見えた。四十歳くらいで、なみの身分の女ではなかった。肌はとても白くきめ細やかで、ひどくやつれてはいたが、頬にはいくぶん丸みとふくよかさがあり、髪は眼の高さで短く切られ、額にかかる前髪はたいへん上品で、尼の姿のほうが、髪が長いままよりもずっと優雅で当世風でさえあると源氏は思った。
Translation - German Als Genji keine Gesellschaft mehr hatte und sich zu langweilen begann, ging er hinaus zum Fuß des Hügels, und spazierte umhüllt vom schweren Dunst der Abenddämmerung bis zur Reisighecke. Seine Begleiter hatte er bis auf Koremitsu, der noch bei ihm war, schon heimgeschickt. In einem Zimmer auf der Westseite des gegenüberliegenden Anwesens war eine Nonne bei ihrer Andachtsübung. Die Rouleaus waren halb geöffnet, und Genji sah durch die Hecke, dass Blumen als Opfergabe vor eine Buddhafigur gestellt worden waren. Die Nonne las, halb an den mittleren Pfeiler des Zimmers gelehnt auf dem Boden sitzend, laut aus einem Sutra, welches sie auf die Armlehne neben ihr gestützt hatte, und machte einen sehr erschöpften Eindruck. Sie war um die vierzig, und nicht von gewöhnlicher Herkunft. Ihre Haut war besonders weiß und von feiner Beschaffenheit, und obwohl sie sehr ausgemergelt aussah, hatten ihre Wangen eine gewisse Rundheit und Fülle. Ihr Blick war frisch und klar, und Genji fand, dass die Nonne mit ihren auf Schulterlänge gestutzten Haaren viel eleganter und sogar modischer aussah als Frauen mit langem Haar.

Source text - Japanese それらの音楽は、楽音ではなくて、「木の響き」のような、「ものの響き」として聴こえてくる。近代のヨーロッパ音楽の歴史は、座標軸上にあまりにも組織された、緊密に、論理的に組み上げることで音楽を発展させてきた。しかし、それらは、人知により操作された音楽、操作された響きになってしまう。実際、そのような音楽の発展は、シュトックハウゼンやブーレーズぐらいまできて、完全に行き詰まってしまう。一方、同じ頃に、ジョン・ケージはそれを全部やめ、「ものの響き」について語り出した。ヨーロッパ音楽のピークと、それを解体することが同時にやってきた。中世やルネッサンス頃には、ちゃんとした「ものの響き」がある。むしろ、「ものの響き」を人々は楽しんでいた。そのことと、北極圏への旅が、僕の中で微妙につながり、『out of noise』というアルバムが成長していったんだ。
Translation - English The music I heard seemed to me like the sound of wood, the “sound of things” rather than musical tones. The history of European modern classical music is based on sounds that are perfectly organized in coordinate systems – tightly and logically. The result is, however, music that is manipulated by human intelligence. The development of such forms of music got in fact stuck in a dead-end when it reached the likes of Stockhausen and Boulez, while on the other hand there was John Cage who abolished all that and began to talk about the “sound of things”. The pinnacle of European music was at once the point of its demise. In medieval times and the days of the Renaissance, the “sound of things” existed in its own right, and it appears that this “sound of things” was actually what people were enjoying back then. At some point within myself, this impression melted down with those received during my Arctic journey, and from there emerged the album, ”out of noise”.

Originally trained as an editor for an English culture and lifestyle magazine in Tokyo, I gradually shifted toward the translation business and am now mainly working as a freelancer translating culture (art, design, music, etc.) related Japanese texts into English or German.
Clients include cultural institutions and facilities such as museums, galleries and schools/universities; publishing companies; magazines, websites, and other publications/media.
As some of my clients specialize in very cutting-edge types of "art", I am increasingly focusing also on technical aspects, including robotics and other technologies used in cultural/artistic projects involving interaction and communication.
