Nelle presenti note, per semplicità, consideriamo durezza il solo carbonato di calcio (CaCO3). I Sali disciolti in acqua si dissociano in ioni, cioè la molecola si divide in due parti: Il carbonato di calcio (calcare) si divide in ione calcio e ione carbonatico CaCO3 à Ca++ + CO3 =
Il cloruro di sodio (sale da cucina) si divide in ione sodio e ione cloro.
NaCl à Na+ + Cl-
Le resine scambiatrici contenute nell’addolci-tore hanno la proprietà di fissare gli ioni calcio, liberando in cambio ioni sodio. Durante la produzione di acqua addolcita la resina, carica di ioni Na+, cattura gli ioni Ca++ dall’acqua e cede all’acqua altrettanti ioni Na+ : 1. entra acqua dura con CaCO3 incrostante 2. esce acqua dolce con NaCO3 non incro-stante Quando tutto il sodio è stato ceduto termina l’effetto delle resine, che vanno quindi rigene-rate, asportando il calcio fissato e ricaricando-le di sodio. Questo si ottiene con un lavaggio a mezzo di una soluzione di cloruro di sodio in acqua (salamoia). Durante il lavaggio con salamoia la resina esaurita, carica di ioni Ca++ , cattura gli ioni Na+ dalla salamoia e cede alla salamoia altrettanti ioni Ca++ :
1. entra salamoia con NaCl
2. esce acqua con CaCl2, che va allo scarico
Translation - English HOW DOES WATER DECALCIFICATION WORK.
The most efficient and safest way to treat hard water is the Ion Exchange. In the following notes -just to make it easier to swallow- we will only consider calcium carbonate (CaCO3) as a hardening factor. The salts melt inside the water split into ions, which means it splits in two parts:
Calcium carbonate (limestone) splits in calcium ion and carbonate ion
CaCO3 à Ca++ + CO3 =
Sodium chloride (cooking salt) splits in sodium ion and chlorine ion.
NaCl à Na+ + Cl-
The ion-exchanging resins kept in the decalcificator can fix the calcium ions, freeing sodium ions in the process.
During the production of decalcified water the resin is charged with Na+ ions, captures the Ca++ ions from the water and releases the same quantity of Na+ ions into the liquid:
1. Hard water comes inside carrying encrusting CaCO3
2. Decalcified water gets out carrying non-encrusting NaCO3.
As soon as the sodium has entirely been distributed, the effect of the resins is terminated and it is necessary to remove the calcium from them and refresh them with sodium.
This can be done by washing them in a solution of sodium chloride and water (brine). During the washing procedure, the exhausted resins, charged with Ca++ ions, capture the Na+ ions from the brine and return the same quantity of Ca++ to the substance.
1. Brine enters inside carrying NaCl
2. Water carrying CaCl2 gets out, and is destined to go down the drain.

I study Linguistic Mediation at the Università di Roma La Sapienza and I'll apply for a Master Degree this year.
