Source text - Indonesian Era milenium memunculkan fenomena yang disebut dengan media sosial. Melalui media sosial, setiap orang yang berbeda tempat, kota, negara bahkan benua dapat terhubung dan mengenal satu sama lain dan berhubungan secara rasional ataupun emosional. Media sosial merupakan demokratisasi dari media dan mendorong terjadinya pergeseran peran komunikasi tatap muka menjadi komunikasi bermedia (mediated communication). Media sosial merupakan pergeseran dari model komunikasi massa yang berakar dari format percakapan antara penulis dan pembacanya dalam saluran sosial mereka. Dikatakan media sosial jika ada aplikasi yang memfasilitasi percakapan seseorang dengan menggunakan internet. Setiap orang kini memiliki kesempatan untuk menyiarkan pikiran, pendapat, dan keahliannya secara global. Terkadang pendapat seseorangg di media sosial memiliki pengaruh yang luas dan menjadi populer (viral), karena dikemukakan oleh seorang public figure yang memiliki banyak pengikut di media sosial miliknya.
Pada akhir tahun 2017 jumlah pengguna telepon seluler (ponsel) di tanah air mencapai 371,4 juta pengguna atau 142 persen dari total populasi sebanyak 262 juta jiwa. Artinya, rata-rata setiap penduduk memakai 1,4 telepon seluler karena satu orang terkadang menggunakan 2-3 kartu telepon seluler. Sementara kaum urban Indonesia mencapai 55 persen dari total populasi. Berdasarkan data wearesocial.sg, pengguna internet di Indonesia mencapai 132,7 juta dengan penetrasi sekitar 51 persen dari populasi. Untuk pengguna media sosial aktif mencapai 106 juta dengan penetrasi sekitar 40 persen, dan pengguna media sosial mobile aktif mencapai 92 juta atau sekitar 35 persen dari populasi. Dibandingkan dengan posisi Januari 2016, pengguna ponsel Indonesia meningkat 14 persen. Sementara untuk penetrasi mengguna media sosial aktif meningkat 34 persen, dan penetrasi pengguna media sosial mobile aktif bertambah 39 persen.
Translation - English Millennium era causes the phenomenon called social media. Through social media, every person in different places, cities, countries, and continents could connect and know each other rationally and emotionally. Social media is a democratization of media and it causes the friction from face-to-face communication to mediated communication. Social media is a friction from the model of mass communication rooted from conversation format between the writer and the reader in their social channels. It is called social media if there is an application which could facilitate conversation by using internet. Nowadays, every person has the opportunity to share
their thoughts, opinions, and skills globally. Sometimes, someone’s opinion in social media has big influence and goes viral, because it is delivered by a public figure who has a lot of followers on social media.
In the late 2017, the number of phonecell user in our country has reached 371,4 million users or 142 percent of the 626 million total population. It means that every individual uses 1,4 cellphone because one person sometimes uses 2-3 cellphone cards. Meanwhile, Indonesia urban population has reached 55 percent of the total
population. Based on the data from wearsocial.sg, the internet users in Indonesia has reached 132,7 million with penetration rate around 51 percent of the population. The active social media users has reached 106 million with penetration rate around 40 percent, and active mobile social media has reached 92 million or around 35 percent of the population. Compared to its position in January 2016, the phonecell users in Indonesia are increased 14 percent. Meanwhile, the penetration rate of active social media users is increased 34 percent, and the penetration rate of active mobile social media is increased 39 percent.
