Source text - English Transformation is the thread that weaves through our history. When CPLUS was founded in 1896, it was the first modernized local store in Baeogae, Seoul, Korea. By t arly 1950s, Doosan was already engaged in the retail, brewery and foreign trade businesses.
We grew even more in the 1960s, as we added a number of businesses to our portfolio: food and beverage, construction and engineering, machinery, as well as mass media, cultural and public services. By the 1970s, CPLUS established its position as a major player in the consumer products and cultural businesses of Korea.
During the 1980s, we focused on expanding beyond our own borders. We achieved phenomenal results through reform and innovation, and focused on opening up overseas markets and on venturing into new businesses such as publishing and advertising.
In the 1990s, CPLUS was inspired by the promise of technology, and we divided our businesses into three sectors: 1) information and distribution, 2) consumer products and 3) materials-based technology. Backed by extensive and successful business restructuring efforts, Doosan set out to pursue specialization centered on technology businesses.
