German term

Wesenheiten

German to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
(Press release for an exhibition of work y Franz Ackermann)

I presume you have pics? At all events, for you & The (ProZ) Community - The www doesn't seem short of them, starting with this - http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Ackermann (see floral-like forms amongst monochrome panels)

entities

Als erstes faellt mir da "entities" ein?
Peer comment(s):

agree Stephen Reader : On the grounds of the Langenscheidt E - D entry for entity

agree Ulrike Kraemer : mir auch ...

agree GeorginaW (X) : I think it has to be entities because of the mentions of architecture etc. so "beings" is too amorphous

agree Ingeborg Gowans (X) : my first thought exactly, but I don't know the artist :(

beings

may well work
Peer comment(s):

agree Stephen Reader : Hello, Stephen. Dep. on just how 'creature' the things look in the paintings. That's why I'm wondering about 'organisms' which may be a little more open.

thanks, I also considered organisms but steered clear due to the "organische"

organisms

Just another variation, of course then omitting a direct translation of the preceding "organische - ". Maybe a city as an organism (the term) is more viable than eine Stadt als Organismus (?) which seems to be the implication. Langenscheidt has Wesenheit (phil. usage) for entity.
Peer comment(s):

agree BrigitteHilgner : Okay, it's more gut feeling than anything else, but to me this makes most sense.

German term (edited): (lebende, … organische) Wesenheiten

animate forms/bodies

(animate material)

living beings/entities (=Latin for „being“), organic structures, or simply organisms would also work for me

components

Similar to all other suggestions, but a COMPONENT "is or serves as an element (in something larger); composing; constituent: For Ex 'the component parts of a computer system'
In this case the "Stadtlandschaften" are part of the "global society", a larger system whose 'Stadtlandschaften' could be referred to as components.
