Please help! A friend of mine has sent me a very kind gift, but I don't know what's in the tin!
I've tried various on-line dictionaries, but they don't seem to recognize the initial letter — I've used the Greek letter here to indicate what looks like an inverted V (or an A without a crossbar) — doesn't seem to appear in Word's 'Cyrillic' character set.
I think this might be salmon eggs (going on past experience), but I found the words for that easily before, so I suppose this might be something different.
Please help, it would be a shame to open the tin and then find the contents were not as expected!

Λососевая => Лососевая ("salmon" as an adjective)
(Russian Л may also be desplayed similar to Λ)
эернистая => зернистая (adjective "grainy", "granular")
Some noun is missing and I think ИКРА (caviar) must be on the tin.
If so, dictionary offers following:
зернистая икра — caviar(e)
зернистая икра — soft caviar
fresh-grain caviare
granular caviar

Yes, it turns out, your guess was correct.

Note from asker:
Спасибо! Thanks so much for your help; yes, indeed, ИКРА does appear on the tin, but in such stylized lettering, I thought it was the name of the brand! Anyway, vodka now chilling nicely, I don't know how to write 'nazdrovya' in the Cyrillic alphabet, but cheers! anyway. |

: Вот определение caviar: the salted roe of sturgeon, esp the beluga, usually served as an hors d'oeuvre // Вы знаете, ее действительно игогда называют salmon roe caviar, видимо для стимулирования сбыта, но на самом деле это просто salmon roe.

Спасибо. Как совершенно точно перевести на английский икру, притом лососиную, притом из банки, не уверен, но примерно показал автору вопроса и по большому счету согласился с его версией.

: Насколько я понимаю, автору вопроса важно знать, что в банке, а не точный литературный перевод :-)
