English term

US$ 500,000

Non-PRO English to Japanese Other Finance (general)
Sorry for the stupid question, but need to express the above figure in Japanese.
Would
間50万米
be correct? (I have reported a bit of a sentence)

I apologise as I don't know any Japanese at all (as you will have guessed:)

TIA

Discussion

Andrea Re (asker) Nov 4, 2010:
No, it wasn't yen... but it is much worse:)
If you try on Google Translator 万 is translated with 10,000, but 50万 becomes 50 million:):)
Jeremy Rosenberg Nov 3, 2010:
that sounds about right - the exchange rate is about JPY100 - USD1
michiko tsum (X) Nov 3, 2010:
Maybe your client was thinking 50 million yen?
Andrea Re (asker) Nov 3, 2010:
Thanks to all Sorry for the stupid question, but if are illiterate... well it is difficult to argue one way or another:)
KathyT Nov 3, 2010:
Your client is wrong in this case. 50万 is definitely 500,000.
Andrea Re (asker) Nov 3, 2010:
Just to be on the safe side Here is the sentence
..., 最高で年間50万米ドルを節約できると推定されている
(I didn't write it)
My client says it says 50 million, not 500,000.
is he right or wrong, so I can leave the sentence as is?

万 = 10,000, so 50万 = 500,000
It took me ages to get my head round it!
Note from asker:
Hi there, so the symbol 万 is correct... My client was saying it meant 50 million...
Ah... this is what I though. The same as in Korean and Hindi (that I know of:)
