Hi me again, just found this, http://jla.aip.org/resource/1/jlapen/v19/i3/p177_s1?isAuthor...

Maybe "chaine de rechargement" could just be translated as "Laser cladding characteristics"....?
reeny Sep 3, 2011:
Hello Carmy, I was thinking along the same lines as Chris, I don't believe it has anything to do with recharging/loading, it is the whole welding process, used frequently in aviation. Hope I have been of some help!

Reeny :)

Here is more context:

Caractéristiques de la chaine de rechargement :

La chaine de rechargement devra assurer la qualité du volume rechargé en tout lieu du volume de travail du moyen en tenant compte des points non exhaustifs suivants :

La source laser

etc.
chris collister Sep 3, 2011:
Reeny may well be correct: see http://www.ilt.fraunhofer.de/eng/ilt/pdf/eng/products/LaserC... for example. The "chaîne de rechargement" would then be the whole system which makes the process work.

Hi Reeny,

Thank you for your response. But what about 'chaine de rechargement'?

Kind regards,

Carmy

Unfortunately, I don't have more text then the one I posted. I don't think it has to do with recharging. With regard to the laser beam, I believe it would be "laser beam build-up" and when it refers to metal, I believe it should be "hard-facing"but again I would need a confirmation.
chris collister Aug 29, 2011:
OK, more like "loading". But where does the laser come in, and what exactly is this machine doing?
Carmy Tutino (asker) Aug 29, 2011:
Here is the sentence after this heading:

Largeur minimum du rechargement = 1.2mm (pour les sections d’épaisseur 0.75mm) et 1.6mm pour les autres sections.

Le fournisseur fournira également à .... 20 éprouvettes rechargées (plans fournis sur demande) pour l’évaluation des caractéristiques mécaniques du rechargement.

Yes, I mean aircraft engines, although the text clearly says "construction of aviation motors."
chris collister Aug 29, 2011:
Could we please have more context! If "rechargement" comes up quite often, can you provide a sentence (or more) in which it does? My first guess is that this refers to a large laser for which a capacitor bank has to be charged before the laser "pump" will fire. In the context of aviation motors, is this for laser machining? Cutting? Measurement? What?
philgoddard Aug 29, 2011:
We need a lot more context. This sounds like a heading - what does it say underneath? What is being recharged? By aviation motor, do you mean aircraft engine?
