Spanish term

productos de la tierra

Spanish to English Other Cooking / Culinary
Hi everybody! Obviously I know what this means -"fresh produce/local produce/natural produce/products of the land"- but in the context of a website for an estate which has 4 sections dedicated to vineyards, wines, olive oil and "productos de la tierra" respectively, I'm looking for a short and catchy translation which expresses the philosophy of the estate: organic, biodynamic and totally natural products made from the fruits of the land (jams, marmalades, preserves, chutneys, herbal teas).

Thank you!

Red rag The term "organic" is legally defined and may only be used to describe products which are certified as such.

Don't let me get started on the subject.... ;-)
Lisa McCarthy Jul 5, 2012:
@ Amanda Is this actually the title of a tab/section on the website?

Our natural produce

Obviously a lot of the answers above work well, so this will be a question of preferences more than anything, perhaps. But I think if you need a heading for a tab on a website, for example, and you need to include - as I understand it- "from the estate itself" and "bio" or "natural" or similar, and it needs to be short, then the above might work very well. "Our" makes it clear that the products come from the estate, and "natural", well, it's self-explanatory.

Other options: "Our bio products", or any variation on the above. Anyway, my suggestion is that: use "our" somewhere as a short way of getting across "from the estate", "locally grown" if space is tight and you need something snappy.

PLEASE NOTE: in fact, if you are only dealing with products made from the produce, it may be safer to use "OUR NATURAL PRODUCTS". I know it's simple, but sometimes simple is best, and it's still my best bet, covering most of the aspects you mention in a short, neat title.

Thank you Veronica! :)
agree Charles Davis : Judging by the list (jams, preserves, etc.) it's products rather than produce, but I think this is best; as you say, simple is best in this sort of situation.

Yes, the same thing occurred to me. "Our natural products" would be best. Thanks Charles! :)
agree franglish : ... and should they sell produce as well, one could always go for "Our natural produce and products"

Indeed! Thanks Franglish! :)
neutral philgoddard : This doesn't work - it implies that all the other products on the list aren't natural.

I don't agree with you at all. But thanks anyway.

(typical) regional produce

I think "de la tierra" here may be referring to the region. I would also be tempted to add "typical".

bio products/ bio food

Bio products or bio food are terms often used where I live. If your client produces food only, I'd go with bio food. If not, then bio products. Hope this helps :)

Thanks
neutral philgoddard : We don't say "bio" in the way other languages do - we say organic.

Thanks for the explanation
neutral neilmac : Bio products is more specific. We do use the term in English, but it's not ideal here.

What about "agricultural products"? I think it's short and covers the idea. It deals with "cultivating soil, producing crops"

Locally grown

It's another option and has connotations of organic, fresh etc.

Thanks, Isamar. I think you're right. "grown" can go.
neutral philgoddard : As I said to Jane above, "locally grown" is stating the obvious - they're grown on this farm.
1 hr
Perhaps better "estate grown"? "Locally" was the pitch. Some farms sell products partially or totally produced in other places, so this is a distinction.
neutral macimovic : I think it's not the location that matters but the characteristics of the products/food.
2 hrs
Cut off the "local" if you like, Milica, but if the estate offers organic and biodynamic produce and products, this should be specified.

other produce

For two reasons:
1. Grapes, wine and olives, the other items on the list, are also "productos de la tierra", so the Spanish doesn't make logical sense.
2. Produce, in English, is by definition "from the earth".
Peer comment(s):

agree Mark Radcliffe : Yes, or perhaps "our other products"
