French term

POU

French to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Vehicle parts (packaging tests)
I'm translating instructions for the testing of packaging of vehicle parts- to see how they stand up to handling and transport.

The document has reached me in Spain, so I suppose there is even a small chance that the initials are actually Spanish usage - but I went down that road for a while and didn't make that much progress!

POU occurs in conjunction with POE and POI, so I am doing a triple posting.

First appearance is in a table for these tests, and under the heading of "Typologie pièce" we find "POI - POE - POU". Other headings include the date and place of the tests, the project number, but this is the only piece of information that is filled in.

Further along we have a note saying "sauf spécifications contraires dans le fascicule de préconisation ou CdC pour POI, POU." (we're looking at forklifts here) and "« caractéristiques des moyens de transport utilisés » dans le fascicule de préconisation ou CdC pour POI, POU. " talking about trucks delivering the parts.

All help gratefully received!

Discussion

Noni Gilbert Riley (asker) Oct 10, 2012:
Article on OE and OEM, giving some idea of... .... the looseness of use in these terms.

Noni Gilbert, cheer up, it happens with everyone.

I was looking in the right direction, but... I had suspected that this was pièce etc, but didn't want to distract my team of helpers by mentioning this! However I had failed miserably to find support for my suspicions. Don't know why I am so bad at looking things up on the resources already available to us here on Proz. ;-(
philgoddard Oct 5, 2012:
Pièces originales?
Sarah Bessioud Oct 5, 2012:
O = occasion?
philgoddard Oct 5, 2012:
Well, P is presumably pièce.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks for this help: since in my text POI and POU were always mentioned in combination, I was able to use the vague OE (original equipment) and OEM (original equipment manufacturer)."
