Thank you, Jane!
neutral Carol Gullidge : more specifically "bowls", so not quite synonymous with sinks/fregaderos, as a sink can have more than one bowl (as Helena realised after her original post)

A kitchen will have a tap or taps, and a sink. And the sink can have one or more bowls. I think when describing a kitchen you would not say it has a tap and a bowl...

sinks

If you look at this IKEA catalogue, it seems clear that senos can mean sinks and it makes a lot of sense here.

Hi Carol, you are absolutely right - I've always called it a double sink but then I'm not a kitchen designer.

Here they're called 'bowls', though I've never heard anyone use that term.

'Bowl' seems to be the correct term. I've learnt something new today!

Thanks Jane, but I think the correct term is 'bowl'.
agree Carol Gullidge : they are called bowls, and the term is widely used in kitchen brochures/catalogues, where you can have sinks with single or double bowls, or 1 1/2 bowls... (http://www.screwfix.com/c/bathrooms-kitchens/sinks/cat820366...

I realise that now. That's what comes from posting too quickly! Thank you, Carol :-)
agree Charles Davis : I did an industrial kitchen equipment catalogue in June. I've just checked back and I did use "bowl" as opposed to "sink". I did a lot of research in existing EN catalogues. // Re. Neil's comment: no, it's called a bowl even if it's square/cubic.

Yes, I've visited at least a dozen websites and there's no doubt it's the correct term. I suppose I'd never paid enough attention to either 'seno' or 'bowl'. Thank you, Charles :-)
agree neilmac : It's only a bowl if it's rounded.... I have a double square/cubic kitchen sink... in fact, "everything but the kitchen bowl"?? ;)

I do my washing up in plastic square bowls, which live in my stainless steel sink bowls! Thank you, Neil :-)
