Discussion

Tony M Apr 10, 2017:
@ Asker Now you have given us that VITAL extra context, I would certainly agree with Bohy's interpretation here — and unlike yourself, i do find this totally relevant and applicable. You say it is an unrewarding task they don't really want to do — 'bin count' is simply being used as an example of that kind of task, since in this kind of illustartion, the writer is going to seek to create as 'real' a hypothetical scenario as possible (to help people engage with the topic); so 'inventaire' is not only technically accurate for the activity, but equally in FR an example of a tedious chore.
Anne Bohy Apr 10, 2017:
"bin" est le nom adopté par Amazon pour les cases de stockage des articles dans ses dépôts, si j'ai bonne mémoire (j'ai traduit pour eux autrefois). C'est donc bien d'inventaire qu'il s'agit, à mon avis.
Claire Mendes Real (asker) Apr 10, 2017:
Nothing to do with waste collection it is Amazon. That is why bin has nothing to do with waste but I think with tasks not very pleasant to do.
Thank you
B D Finch Apr 10, 2017:
Context Context includes such information as what the company does or makes. Is it a waste collection company? a textile manufacturer? a supermarket chain? an abbatoir?
Tony M Apr 10, 2017:
@ Asker Basically, the term means 'counting things that are in bins' (literal or figurative) — anything more specific than that depends entirely on what your particular company is actually using these bins for.
Claire Mendes Real (asker) Apr 10, 2017:
But you hate doing bin counts – you’d put it pretty much at the bottom of your list.
And now you’re not going meet your personal ‘best week’ goal.

Merci
Anne Bohy Apr 10, 2017:
Il n'y a rien après ????

le contexte LET’S RESOLVE A CONFLICT
Let’s say you’re having a great week in Stow – you plan to ‘knock it out of the park’ today so you can have your best week ever.
I’m your AM and I ask you to help out ICQA and work with some new Associates to do simple bin counts.

Je n'ai pas plus de contexte.
Merci

inventaire

Supposition...

Note from asker:

agree Tony M : Yes, now we have that vital extra context, 'picking bins' a,d other bulk warehousing techniques makes a great deal of sense: checking that the number of articles in the 'bin' does indeed correspond to the stock as per computer.

Thank you! "Amazon" was the most important element of context. That's what I suspected from the start : some sort of warehouse inventory task.
agree Alison MacG : Useful blog http://www.interstellarorchard.com/2013/12/06/icqa-for-campe... (see also SAP terms - comptage par emplacement http://help-legacy.sap.com/saphelp_46c/helpdata/fr/33/607d77... )

comptage du nombre de réclamations / demandes

Without any more context, this is my suggestion.

disagree Tony M : That only applies to the one specific company context in your ref., which wouldn't generally be usable in other contexts, e.g. as here.

Hence my "Low" level of confidence. In any case, it might shed some light into the meaning and how it is used in a corporate context...

Alors ::: tâches non terminées :::?¿????
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : From the new context added, this seems an unlikely (and unnecessary) extrapolation as to what might be in these 'bins'.
