History
In a legal document from the mid-18th century, mention is made of a petitioner, "boende paa et Finnetorp i Elverum Sogn kaldet Østenheeden i Aggershuus Amt udi Vor Rige Norge..." I have found a couple of references using this word, but am still unclear on its precise meaning. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Finnish farm
Finnish immigrants came to Norway centuries ago and settled and built small farms (torp). Their method was slash-and-burn, but I think Finnish (immigrant) farm covers it.
