Hi there, I'm a beginner when it comes to CAT tools, and I'm trying to get started with OmegaT. I apologise in advance if this question is too amateur or I'm not able to express myself clearly. I apologise in advance if this question is too amateur or I'm not able to express myself clearly. The thing is, I'm going to translate a type of document I've translated before, it's a standard form and the only thing that changes are the personal details of the individual in question. I had translated that document with OmegaT, I'm not sure what I did wrong but if I go to the relevant folder there is nothing in "glossary" or "tm", or anything like that, just the original and translated documents, nor can I open the project on OmegaT. It seems to me that I might have created the translated version of the document, but not saved the actual project. Anyhow, since I'm now going to translate a very similar document, I'd like to know if there's any way I can combine those other 2 documents (the original one and the translated version) so I can translate this new document and have all the matching parts of the text translated automatically. I hope this makes sense. Thank you in advance, ▲ Collapse | | | Susan Welsh United States Local time: 20:54 Russian to English + ...
There will be nothing in the TM folder or the Glossary folder unless you put something there. Your TMs (three versions) are the .TMX files in your project folder, below omegat.project. To use the TM in a new project, just copy one of the three .tmx files and put it in the TM folder of your new project. What happens if you try? It seems to me that I might have created the translated version of the document, but not saved the actual project. In OmegaT, it's not possible to translate without creating a translation memory. That's called an alignment. You can do it with OmegaT 4 (Tools > Align Files). Didier | | | Susan Welsh United States Local time: 20:54 Russian to English + ...

Olivia, you haven't had the courtesy to answer our posts, but if you are having trouble understanding the OmegaT documentation, this image shows the three types of .TMX files. Thank you very much for your answers, I'm sorry for my late reply. I managed to solve the problem by downloading a more recent version of Omega T which comes with an allignment tools. I alligned the original document and the translated file and created a TM. Kind regards, | | | There is no moderator assigned specifically to this forum.
