Hello,

I'm a US translator and want to start working with EU agencies (Ireland, Germany). I have read a lot online about VAT charges, but would like to clarify:

As a person paying their taxes in the USA, I do not need to add a VAT (sales tax) percentage to my invoice, right? All of my prices are "all-inclusive", correct?

And for tax purposes, I will have to add my SSN on the invoice, right?

Thanks so much for your help!

You do not charge VAT or US sales tax to foreign customers. No need to put your US Social Security number on the invoice, either, as far as I know.

However, there may be other requirements for invoices, such as a brief indication of exemption from VAT. An Austrian agency requires me to put their VAT number (ATU) on my invoices.
