Professionalism Dec 16, 2021

Working with somebody you know isn't going to mess you about, who will deliver good work by the agreed deadline without fuss, and will only raise new issues if they are important.

In other words, the same qualities we would seek in any professional collaboration.

It depends on the client. I would like to think it was experience, but on many occasions clients (at least the ones trawling on sites like this) are simply looking for cheapness, i.e. low rates.

Which of what two things? The question makes no sense.

Clear and easy communication is obviously very important, which is demonstrated in this very poll question.

The most important thing Dec 16, 2021

Retina is the most important thing in the client's eyes, because without it the client won't be able to see at all.

Right? Dec 16, 2021

I think the question is only pertinent to what makes a translator qualified for a job. So, things like "cheapness" don't qualify as valid answers.

It's a perfectly valid answer if the clients' main qualification is the cheapest translator they can get.

For Turkish clients Dec 17, 2021

it's quick turnaround (and cheap rates of course). 30.000 words in 24 hours. Never mind the quality, just get it done! Damn their eyes...

Reliability Dec 17, 2021

Or: consistency (including price, obviously, but also availability, communication and quality). Clients prefer to work with translators that leave one less thing to worry about. The biggest profitability pressure for clients (apart from price) is having to interact with translators unnecessarily and having to deal with unexpected events unnecessarily.
