Christopher Smith (X) (asker) Sep 30, 2014:
Between the two of you, you provided me with the answer I needed. Freek gave a citation in Dutch ("...lassers-kwalificatie certificaat en daaraan gekoppeld de juiste verlenging door de keuringsinstantie (doorstempellijst)".) and Michael gave equivalent citations in English, particularly "3. Then their present company attaches a company headed blank sheet to his quals stating: Welder Qualification Certificate-Extension of Validity
4. Welding inspector and certifying body stamp for extension"
I made it clear in the original context that this was about job vacancies for welders, so any reference to punch lists (which relate to the completion of projects) is invalid for the context. I am happy that I found the right solution and so is my client. So, again, thanks to both of you for your help.
freekfluweel Sep 30, 2014:
@Asker De term "doorstempellijst" is only known within the branche and I wouldn't know an equivalent in English used by the British welding world... Therefore I'd leave this term untranslated and give an explanation between ()
Michael Beijer Sep 30, 2014:
@Christopher: I merely remarked that it sounds a lot like ‘punch list’. I gave you my suggested translation in my last discussion entry: ‘Welders Approval Certificate extension’.

As I now see it, in this context, a ‘doorstempellijst’ is both a punch list and a Welders Approval Certificate extension ... or as you said, ‘a list of extensions of the validity of a welder's qualification.’
Christopher Smith (X) (asker) Sep 30, 2014:
I decided to close without grading as nobody (formally) put forward an acceptable answer. A pity, because Freek was on the nail with his discussion entry. The reference he provides makes it clear that a 'doorstempellijst' is a list of extensions of the validity of a welder's qualification. Michael, you gave a lot of useful references in English but eventually went off on the 'punch list' tack, which is simply wrong. I did give you both the opportunity to formalise your answers, but you did not do so. Nevertheless, I am grateful for your help and I used Freek's answer in the translation. Aysen, I am sorry but 'punch list' is clearly not the correct answer.
Michael Beijer Sep 29, 2014:
@Christoper: I'm loath to enter an answer as I am still not 100% sure about the meaning of the term ‘doorstempellijst’. I think I would translate:

‘de benodigde certificaten en doorstempellijsten’

as

‘the required Welders Approval Certificates and Certificate extensions’ or
‘the required Welders Approval Certificates and Welders Approval Certificate extensions’

(see: http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?catid=1461&pageid=13270 )

I suppose the term ‘doorstempellijst’ on its own would therefore be: ‘Welders Approval Certificate extension’.

Christopher Smith (X) (asker) Sep 29, 2014:
Thanks for all the discussion entries, Freek and Michael. I have a clearer idea now. Would either of you like to post a formal answer so that I can allocate points?
Michael Beijer Sep 28, 2014:
probably completely unrelated, but… ‘doorstempellijst’ does sound a lot like a ‘punch list’

‘Noticed quite frequently that Qualifications have been submitted in documentation packs with:

1. welder producing quals from pevious companies (company headed quals)
2. completing production butt
3. Then their present company attaches a company headed blank sheet to his quals stating: Welder Qualification Certificate-Extension of Validity
4. Welding inspector and certifying body stamp for extension
5. then every 6 months /2 years etc

So if this happening technically this not correct just for ASME 1X or is this industry standard for all specs i.e AWS D1.1 etc’ (http://www.ukwelder.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t12936.h... )

just found this (maybe relevant):R Stamp Welding

Boiler repair in the United States is governed by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors and the ASME under a classification called R Stamp Welding. In order to perform R Stamp welds and repairs, boilermakers are tested and certified in the quality of their weld joints through a rigorous testing procedure. R stamps are issued to companies that have existing ASME code stamps issued for construction and whose QC system covers repairs or follow the guidelines set up by ASME to obtain an R stamp. Welders identify their welds by stamping their identifying welder number adjacent to their completed weld with a <font size="2" color="blue"><font size="2" color="blue">set of steel stencils</font></font>.[3]’

punch list

I think it is the same as the "punch list/punchlist" listed among the requirements in most construction and welding job vacancies. I can't say I'm certain though...
