Según el Diccionario de dudas y dificultades de traducción del inglés médico de Fernando Navarro, el «coroner» es el funcionario (no necesariamente médico) encargado de investigar las muertes no atribuibles a causas naturales (es decir, muertes repentinas, violentas o inesperadas). «Coroner», además, es un cargo político.
Como no existe equivalente en el derecho español, casi siempre se traduce por «médico forense», tal y como propone el compañero (y que sí es el «medical examiner»).
Dado que tu texto utiliza ambos términos, sí creo conveniente que expliques en una nota lo que implica el «coroner».
