yes Fiona I saw this wiki entry too-reading it is clear that we are not really talking about counselling but an innovative educational method which uses mime, theatre, art, music, literature, photography etc as its tools and draws from psychology, philosophy and pedagogy for its underlying theories

Since Fiona's Wikipedia reference suggests that this is a specifically Italian concept, I would either leave it in Italian with a few words of explanation in brackets, or use Frank's approximation, "guidance counsellor". I don't think just translating it literally is an option, since "animazione" doesn't mean "animation".

It's just written separately: psycho animator. My mistake, I'm sorry.

Psychoeducator

From what I understand it is a special sort of interdisciplinary psychoeducator/entertainer who uses creative and artistic methods to engage and educate young children according to their stage of development. Animatore in Italian usually has the idea of "entertainer" especially where children are involved.
