Name NoteWill Attend
David Knowles  \"Organizer\" \"Reporter\" Sounds interesting - keep me informed!
Libero_Lang_Lab  \"Reporter\" \"Photographer\" We should make it as open as possible - all language pairs, Spaniards welcome!
Gillian Searl   Hi! Yes, there have been two so far with around 10-15 participants so I'd make it open to all! I'd come - I've enjoyed the other 2.
Sophie Ciaramella  \"Photographer\" ...
Xsjpereira   I'd really like to attend if I'm free, and if it's open to all, not just Russian translators (I'm French to English)
XJosé Luis Villanueva-Senchuk (X)   Hola! If all works out, I could be there. Is it 'closed/limited' to UK members?
Evi Zierlein   Sounds good, I'll try to be there.
Guillermo de la Puerta   ...
Deborah James   First of Nov.is good. However it is bloomin expensive in london. I know of a good Thai place that does good lunches in Richmond for very affordable prices.Shall I find out more there ? If not various cafes ?? Let me know I could investigate.
Mpoma   adajdsj
Halina Arendt   I'd love to attend, but why in November, when the weather's bad and days are short? I tend to go into hibernation for winter, so sometime in September would attract me more. Incidentally, I cannot spot the organizer's icon against anybody's name.
ASA  \"Reporter\" Would love to come if time allows! Is it open to all languages (Fr/En/Ar)?
Marina Rich   I am interested - and i translate into Russian.
Mirela Fletcher  \"Photographer\" ...
Jeanette Mercer   Hi, I would be interested but am away on 1 Nov. Hope there will be another one soon. (I translate French & Spanish to English)
Sandra Schlatter   I'd like to join if I can make it back to London by then...
Ira Parsons  \"Photographer\" ...

Venue? Aug 16, 2002

Does anyone have any ideas? Friday nights in London bars tend to be very crowded...
Where is everyone based?

Based in Barcelona... Aug 16, 2002

Hola Samantha,

I am based in Spain. My idea is to fly in that day and stay one or two nites. It all depends of what rate I can get at the hotel.

Let us try to get a good crowd attending this powwow.

Cheers,

JL

Central London Sep 11, 2002

I'm based in Reading, 30 minutes outside of London and would appreciate a central venue. I also think it's fairer on people coming from farther afield too, as it can be a nightmare getting to Richmond, say, from NE London, let alone Spain! There are some reasonably priced venues in central London, e.g. Gaby's (30 Charing Cross Road, Jewish food), El Pirata (5-6 Down Street, Spanish food), Masala (9 Marshall Street, Indian food) and that's just off the top of my head, without looking at something... Here are some more, although I don't know them:

Is there anybody who lives in London who could recommend somewhere moderate, quiet and central, with good food!?

confused -is this Friday lunchtime or Friday evening ?
I do not hink it is a bank holiday in GB ? On the web site it says 12.00- then a few od us are assuming that is is the evening- as if most are working, then who is free lunchtime... We do mean evening ? Or do we change it to the Sat. the next day for lunchtime ?

Deborah - Fri lunchtime would be better than the evening, and also easier to find a nice (and cheap) restaurant to accommodate us. I could also do Sat lunchtime if that is better for everyone?

Taking a lead Sep 19, 2002

I'll organise it, since no one else has volunteered!

I suggest Ask's Pizza at 48 Grafton Way W1, near Warren St tube. Not too expensive, reasonable selection of pizza and pasta, central but not trendy, downstairs seating for a group. I've been there several times for similar does. It comes to about £25 per head when you add it all up, including drinks and tip. I'm not prepared to work out what everyone spent - just add 10% and divide by the number of people!

Please email me directly at [email protected] with lunchtime or evening preference (Fri 1 Nov).

I'll post the results here and book a table if there's enough interest.

Number of visits?
Several, most recently April 2002.

Location?
Next to Warren Street tube station.

Food?
Pizza and pasta, with Italian wines and salads. Fairly similar to Pizza Express, ASK are a chain with a set menu throughout their restaurants. There is also a dish of the day - usually a pasta and pesto style dish.

Clientele
Office workers - ASK restaurants are in prime city locations and this is no exception.

Cost?
About £20 per head.

Anything else?
Staff are friendly and helpful, but the service is a bit slow and you may need to book in advance to secure a table. There is disabled access, but many tables are downstairs so ring to reserve if it will be an issue.

Opening Hours?
Midday to midnight.

Official Website?
None.
