That's a very broad question. Generally, interpreters should be able to interpret in the three modes, simultaneous, consecutive and sight. That said, there are many different settings where interpreters could gain experience. Two of the main ones are conference (or escort/executive) interpreting and court interpreting. There are interpreters who work in hospitals, and many different types of businesses, and in many cases, they are required to be translators too.
