The rate you offer tells the client exactly what kind of translator you are: i.e., whether you believe in your own expertise and skills or not.
That would only be true, if our customers - most of whom are not familiar with the translation sector - would know and understand what "normal" rates are, BUT since we (the translators and translation agencies) can't even decide on such matters, I really don't believe that clients are looking at it that way.
