　“北极光”杰出文学翻译奖由国际翻译家联盟（简称国际译联）设立，旨在推动文学翻译的发展、改善译文质量和突出翻译家在促进世界人民紧密团结中发挥的重要作用。该奖项每三年评选一次，每次评选一人。

中国译协代表团团长王刚毅说，”（首先，）我们现在的（文学翻译）稿费标准，据我了解，在世界上是属于相当低的（档次）。如果不把翻译的报酬搞上去的话，我们不可能把我们优秀的中国文化，不管是经典的还是当代的，传播出去。第二个方面是，我觉得我们应该提倡教学与实践更紧密的结合。现在学校里的翻译领域教学和实践还有相当大的脱节。“

许老获奖感言中说，“这不仅仅是对我个人翻译工作的认可，也表明中国文学受到世界更多的关注......93岁的我还在做翻译，我就是喜欢它。” 体会良多。许老93岁还能做翻译！中国是最大的市场。但现实很骨感：翻译在中国竟没有一个独立地位。
