today's date is ... 今日は Explanation: Assuming that the date portion is part of the programming script, you could just use "今日は" or "本日の日付:" for the text part. However, leaving out the text altogether might not be a bad idea either. |

(leave it out) Explanation: Peter, I'd go with your hunch and leave it out, because it should be obvious enough to Japanese readers what those numbers stand for, and although some translators may deem such 省略 as "ommissions," to the Japanese readers at large, having 今日は, which sounds like half the sentence without a decent sentence ending, or even 今日の日付 as appears IN THE HEADER OF EACH PAGE seems, um, excessive and too wordy, in my view. If the English page is: Today's date is mm/dd/yyyy Then the Japanese page can simply be: mm/dd/yyyy If you have some say in how the code is written, suggest yyyy年mm月dd日 or other variations. Just my 2 cents. |
