The other one is the literal meaning, i.e. that the transparent structures let in "atmosphere" i.e. air, as well as light. In this case the translation would be: "are the backbone from which the Faculty is suspended as well as being the heart which lets in air and light" Note: by "suspended" I am just referring to the fact that the organs of the chest and abdomen are slung from the backbone which is their supporting structure; in the case of the building it is used figuratively not literally. |
