French term or phrase: tapis neige
I need the correct term for this - it is a sort of conveyor belt or carousel at a ski resort, used instead of a chairlift or ski tow.
It appears in a list of facilities available at a French resort.
Thanks in advance :)

However I think there are other names. There was an accident with one such device a few years ago, in which a girl was dragged into the mechanism and killed. I seem to recall other names being used.

Found a couple of sites referring to the accident in Val Cenis. They refer to "pedestrian conveyor" and "snow walkway". "Tapis roulant" in French.

Magic carpet it is, thanks so much for all your help. I felt it was fairer to give you the points rather than JOhn, as you were probably the first to get to "magic carpet", although if I could I would split them. Sorry John!

ski-slope moving walkway / ski-slope powered ramp

Explanation:
I found this reference in an online article from LADEPECHE.fr -

Le tapis neige du val d'Azun, à Couraduque, ma fille le compare à un « serpent-ascenseur ».

From the description it is what is known as a moving walkway, or possibly an inclined moving walkway, or powered ramp. How you add snow to the phrase is tricky. I am offering a couple of suggestions. There is doubtless a better way!

agree  Linda Sansome (X): It's also known as a "Magic Carpet", according to Wikipedia. But that may be a trade mark name, as there are Ghits for that.

agree  Claire Cox: Yes, I'd refer to it as a magic carpet - usually used for beginners

Magic Carpet seems a brand name.

snow travelator

Explanation:
Just thinking about the moving walkways in airports etc that are known as travelators. this sounds like a similar idea for ski slopes. Also they call the supermarket conveyor belts 'tapis' so I disagree with the term carpet in this sense as it just isn't a carpet. Moving walkway?

magic carpet lift

Explanation:
Magic Carpet may be a brand name (like aspirin is), but that is what they are called and is the common usage. See, for examples:

mpving carpet

Explanation:
See: http://www.directline-skiing.co.uk/St Anton Resort Facilitie...
The resort has a children’s' ski school offering tuition for children aged 4 - 14, a nursery for ages 2 1/2 and up (must be out of nappies) and a host of babysitting and child-minding facilities. Most hotels offer childcare facilities. Children under 9 can ski for free, with considerable discounts for under-16's. In Nasserein, there is a moving carpet, and a children’s' play and activity centre.

It probably depends on what the resort likes to call it!
