It is proposed to include in the measurement system those debt derivative s and off-balance-sheet instruments which react to changes in interest rates and thus affect the reporting institution's exposure to market risk. This would include forward rate agreements (FRAs), futures and options on debt instruments, interest rate and cross-currency swaps and forward foreign exchange positions. A similar methodology would apply to other option-like products, such as caps, floors, and options on futures or swaps. 23. In principle, all derivatives (except for those held outside the trading book) would be converted into positions in the relevant underlying and become subject to the proposals for applying specific and general market risk under the building-block methodology. There would, however, be the possibility of alternative treatments for options which are considered in Annex 5.
