I have been looking at pictures of brake calipers (specifically for cars, not bicycles or motorcycles) to see if they can be described as \"arms.\" Based on what I have seen, the word does not seem to fit very well. Take a look at the picture in the following page to see what I mean:

Physically, the calipers seem to embrace the structure more like a frame than like armes or hands. I, therefore, would like to suggest

Caliper: an instrument consisting essentially of two curved hinged legs, used to measure thickness لقياس سماكة ما and distances. Often used in the plural.
