take-up of water Explanation: "Take-up" is a bit more general than absorption or adsorption. water uptake Explanation: Term of the art. I pasted a couple of examples in as links. You'll find hundreds of thousands. You'll see water sorption and absorption too in various places, but those will have the same root in French. I would translate reprise as uptake.
