Thanks - I think eligibility is correct as I saw مفاضلة used elsewhere in the context of who was able to apply to for an university place, i.e. students who had passed their General Secondary Certificate (Baccalaureate), etc.

Preferred Admission Information and Deadlines

What is Preferred Admission?

Applying to a Preferred Admission (PA) Program is a way for a freshman applicant to indicate an interest in later transferring to one of the six U-M schools or colleges listed below. Acceptance guarantees placement in the 2nd or 3rd year program if the student maintains a specific level of academic achievement during his/her undergraduate years. Achievement expectations during the pre-professional years are explained in the invitation to the program. Most of the Preferred Admit programs are junior level entry programs, with the exception of the Ross School of Business, which is a sophomore level entry program, and the School of Social Work, which is a graduate program.

In order to be considered for admission into any of the Preferred Admission Programs, an applicant must first be offered admission into a freshman level program. The student will then be evaluated for PA and — if selected — will later transfer into the new unit. (If PA is not granted at this stage, the student is still admitted to U-M in their freshman unit.)

Applying to a Preferred Admissions Program is a choice under the Academics heading in the U-M Member Questions section of the Common Application. Students applying for a Preferred Admissions program can have different application deadlines than a student applying for a standard admission.

Asker: Thank you very much for the background information. If you look at the dictionary meaning I'm not sure though that translating it as 'differentiation' makes a lot of sense in this context. Thanks for your help.

Asker: Thanks for explaining what is meant here
