This is the first of a series of six webinars dedicated to the presentation, comparison and analysis of the main CAT tools available in the market.

Target audience:

• Translators who have never used cat tools.
• Beginner CAT tool users.
• CAT tool users who want to gain an insight on the benefits of the different tools available in the market.

This first webinar will be an overview of the principles of translation memory systems.

This presentation will be followed by five sessions that will be exclusively dedicated to the following tools:

Part 2: demonstration of the system

  • Project creation/ import of the document / opening a document
  • Definition of the language combination and integrating a TM and a terminology database for this specific language combination
  • The translation environment and the translation process
  • Finishing a translation
  • Exporting the translation /creating the translation

    How do I register?

    To register in this session please click on the "sign up now" button on the right. Your status will be marked as "registered" and it will indicate only your interest in the training session. Status changes to registered and paid when payment is processed and informed to ProZ.com.

    How do I purchase my spot?
    To purchase your seat at this session please click on the "buy" button. Available slots are limited and will be assigned to registered and paid participants as soon as payment is reported. Early payment is advised in order to secure participation. Allow some time for payment processing if you are paying by wire transfer.

    After your payment is received, your status will be changed to “registered and paid” and your spot for the session will be secured. An invoice and receipt of payment will be sent to you for your records.

    • Internet Connection Required: Cable modem, DSL or better recommended
    • Recommended: Minimum of Pentium® class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM (2 GB of RAM for Windows Vista)

    For Mac®-based Users

    • Required: Mac OS® X 10.4 (Tiger®) or later
    • Required: Safari™ 3.0 or newer, Firefox® 2.0 or newer; (JavaScript™ and Java™ enabled)
    • Internet Connection Required: Cable modem, DSL or better recommended
    • Required: PowerPC G4/G5 or Intel processor, 512 MB of RAM or better

    To Use VoIP (mic & speakers)

    • Required: Fast Internet connection (384 kbps or more recommended)
    • Required: Microphone and speakers (USB headset recommended)

    IMPORTANT:You do not need to have the software installed on your machine, the software features will be presented via the trainer’s machine.

    Recommendations:

    o You need an Internet connection and a separate telephone, so that we can talk to you whilst presenting the training.
    o For the visual section of the training course, we recommend that you have a 64kbps link. This means using an ISDN line or Broadband.
    o For the audio section of the training course, we recommend that you have a telephone headset or hands-free speaker phone.
    o We recommend that you log in 30 minutes in advance of the start time to prepare for the training course.
    o Please mute your phone during the training course to ensure that there is no background noise during the audio section.

    Courses will be open half an hour before the start time. Please login before the start time to ensure that everything on your system is working correctly.

    Bio: Dr. Nicole Keller holds a degree in translation from English and Spanish to German, having studied at the Institute of Translating and Interpreting in Heidelberg, Germany. After two and a half years of working in the industry, she went back to school and earned her Ph.D., focusing on terminology databases and their integration into the translation memory environment. In 2004 she began lecturing at the Institute of Translating and Interpreting, specializing in the comparison of translation memory systems and terminology databases. She also integrated these tools into hands-on English into German translation courses.

    Today she is a part-time university lecturer in Heidelberg, a freelance trainer and consultant for translation tools technology, and still works as a freelance translator.

    We can´t clearly see the appearance of each screen software and there is no summary table comparison of each tool ( + and -)
