I did in the past, but now I really have no time, and a couple of times I paid in advance and then I couldn't attend.

I attended 2 conferences in 2009 and I found those very worthwhile, so I will definitely try to keep that up in the years to come.
I subscribed to the ProZ.com Virtual Conference, but was unable to 'attend' that day, unfortunately (too busy).
And yes, I know conferences and training courses cost time and money, but information is a valuable commodity, too, in my opinion. Apart from that, it's fun to meet colleagues in person for a change!

PS And I forgot I also followed a crash course Wordfast Classic, so I should have answered 3-5...

Mostly because they are too expensive, especially if I have to travel, and also because they are seldom of any real interest to me (I do not feel any desperate need to network or make new contacts).
I was interested in a segment of a recent Proz conference in Barcelona, on recent developments in MT, but the costs of travel and attendance fee for one half-day lecture were prohibitive.
Needs must when the devil drives...

Last year I assisted to 2 conferences, and since the last one (Proz Annual Conference in La Plata, Argentina) was VERY disappointing, I don't think I'll be going to another one this year.

I decide according to the topics, basically (all the ones about CAT tools are automatically discarded now), main language(s) of the event and price, of course. Even though they are tax-deductible (here), conferences are not cheap but usually very profitable (not always financially).

Usually there're about three some conferences for translators/ interpreters I have to attend during a year. Frankly speaking I find it rather useless and annoying - all that *new* information has been in the public domain for the last decade\s. At least I could find many possible sources in the Inet.

Yet I liked some topics about more efficient time and workflow management training, power negotiation for translators and interpreters, some facts about language binds etc. Indeed, some

Yet I liked some topics about more efficient time and workflow management training, power negotiation for translators and interpreters, some facts about language binds etc. Indeed, some tips were pretty obvious and even trivial, but I forgot many of them and such reminders were really useful for me. For awhile.

The point is I just enjoy meeting different interesting people... Perhaps that's why they send me there)

Cheers

I would like to attend or take some workshops online, but:

- There are not to many offers in Venezuela. Last year I signed up for a workshop, and it was cancelled
- International courses, seminars, workshops that require travelling are too expensive for me. I found an interesting workshop online and paypal didn't like me so I wasn't able to pay and participate (plus we have additional restrictions because of the exchange control in Venezuela, which makes it even more difficult

Not worth it at this stage in my career Jan 4, 2010

I used to, but now I'd rather stay home and make more money translating.

I enjoy going to my "local" conferences in Barcelona every year. So far, I have enjoyed them all and got some great information.

I have not been to conferences in other countries as it tends to be too pricey, although I would not rule anything out.
