G'day everyone

Here is a technical question to the Trados people.

In an SDLXLIFF file created by Trados 2009, there is no hard return between the < ? x m l v e r s i o n = " 1 . 0 " e n c o d i n g = " u t f - 8 " ? > (here spaced out for ProZ.com forum bug) and whatever comes after it. If I put a hard return after it, Trados refuses to open the SDLXLIFF file and tells me that it is not valid XLIFF.

The XML specification http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/ doesn't say that there should or shouldn't be a hard return, nor does it say whether it is optional. In all examples given on the specification document, there is always a hard return.

I would have thought that Trados 2009 would accept a file with a hard return in that position, but it doesn't. Why not? Does anyone know? Is this a bug in Trados 2009? Will it be fixed?

Thanks
Samuel
