A few days ago, something called AlphaCleaner installed itself on my computer without any warning. From Google searches, it appears this is some kind of spyware/trojan.

My usual anti-spyware detects it but is "unable to remove it", and I have since downloaded other anti-spyware programs, none of which have been successful.

Does anyone have any idea how to remove this thing before it does any real damage??

http://www.symantec.com/index.htm

They usually have a dedicated free tool for
trojans which is capable of weeding out the stuff
which other tools failed to eradicate.

HTH

Good luck
