4. Now that a model is created, it needs to be validated. When a model is being developed, a small number of selected to validate the model after it is created. This excluded group is called the __holdout sample__. Once the model is developed, the predicted variable value for the holdout sample is compared with the actual value being predicted. The closer the predicted variable is to the actual value, the better the model is performing.
