Boleslaw Krzywousty (Boleslaus the Wrymouthed). Fragmentation
The rule of Bolaslaw Krzywousty (nephew of Boleslaus the Bold) did not stop the country's downfall. This ruler, famous for his military talents (victory in the war against the empire in 1109, defeat of Pomerania in 1113-19), before his death (in 1138) decided to divide the country among his sons. The period of "fragmentation" lasted for over 150 years - the importance of Poland diminished, and the country would not regain its position in Europe until the first half of the 14th century.

During the eleventh century and the first half of the twelfth century, the building of the Polish state continued under a series of successors to Boleslaw I. But by 1150, the state had been divided among the sons of Boleslaw III, beginning two centuries of fragmentation that brought Poland to the brink of dissolution.
