CV/Resume angielski (PDF)
Bio

Emphasis on Danish/Norwegian/Swedish/German/Dutch/French/English

(however, I translate from a great majority of European languages into English)

Interpretation Experience

Interpretation for law firms in connection with litigation at depositions starting in 1987 until present:

(Languages: Danish/Swedish/German/Norwegian) (Mostly as lead interpreter, but also occasionally as check interpreter) and hired by translation agencies mainly in Washington DC or New York, such as Transperfect, Transemantics, Interspeak, Eiber Translations, or directly by law firms, such as Finnegan, Henderson, et al. Average number of onsite depositions per year: three (not a lot, but the need for my languages is not all that great), but likely to increase due to the novel online interpretation mode, in fact I frequenly do remote interpretation via Zoom and similar online platforms.

Interpretation for C-Span, Washington DC (Languages: Danish/Swedish): Political broadcasts interpreted live for US viewing audience (four assignments so far)

Interpretation at German/US meeting in Washington DC involving the MagLev transit system (developed by a German consortium) (1995)

US Department of State

Escort interpretation for senior Austrian department of defense official (three weeks, 1987)

Conference interpretation: Herbalife (1994)

Related field: Voice-over. Agencies, e.g., Welocalize (Frederick, MD)

Translation Experience

Have worked for 35 years as a translator, averaging about half a million words per year in the following languages into English, Danish or Swedish: Danish, Swedish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Finnish, German, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Russian, Italian, French, Portuguese & Spanish.

Into also from the above languages: Danish, Swedish, but also German & French using MTPE

Subject areas covered:

Engineering (physical, chemical, chemical), pharmaceutical science, often related to patent litigation cases, but also general business correspondence, contracts, sometimes done in the form of on-site document review lasting anywhere from one week to several months, even years.

Please note that I am mostly always under strict confidentiality requirements, so no specifics can be revealed other than the subject matters have been very varied.

Several hundred patents have been translated so far, recently (last couple of years) also for the European IP market. Abstracting of medical articles in a plurality of European languages was done for Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore (MD) back in 1987. Complex medical articles, and more straightforward pharmaceutical and biotech product information have also constituted a large share of my work. On a lighter note: A dozen tourist and shopping brochures for Stockholm, Sweden. Other subject areas have been covered, but are too numerous to include in this CV.

Some law firms: Kirkland & Ellis, LLP (DC,CA); Finnegan & Henderson (DC); Venable (DC); Fitzpatrick, Cella, Harper & Scinto (NY), Kenyon & Kenyon (DC); Arnold & Porter (DC); Burns, Doane, Swecker & Matthis (VA); Spalding & King (DC); Foley & Lardner; White & Case; Wilmer Cutlering Hale & Dorr; Patton Boggs, Steptoe & Johnson, Bunt & Wright (TX).

Some translation agencies:

Park IP translations (NY), WeLocalize, ParaPlus (NJ), SunIP (NY), The Big Word (UK), Bowne (NY), Geotext Translations (NY), GMS (Sweden), International Language Option (VA), Interspeak (NY), Japanese Language Associates (DC), Language Works (NY), Juriscribe (NY), Morningside (NY), McElroy (TX), MultiLingual Solutions (MD), Schreiber Translations(MD), Technical Translation Service (Austria), Transperfect (NY), Transemantics (DC), Capital Linguists (MD), GMS (Stockholm, Sweden), Magma (Philadelphia), etc.

Some direct commercial clients:

Marquip (Wisconsin), Amway (Alticor), Evanston Health Surveys or CORE (University of Illinois, Evanston)

Excerpt (snapshot) from my resume publicly available at www.roennike.com:

Recent assignments: Extensive translation and discovery involving a Norwegian pharmaceutical case. Major Norwegian investment (derivatives) case, plus another major Norwegian pharmaceutical case. Regular Russian, Czech, Slovak, German, French, Italian & Portuguese assignments in various fields and often on a rush basis. The French part was related to patent disputes between Samsung and Apple, currently ongoing.

Five-year overview: Several onsite assignments in New York City, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, PA, Los Angeles, CA, Atlanta, GA, and Chicago area at law firms doing interpreting (Danish, Norwegian & Swedish), and onsite review of litigation documents, involving the languages Dutch, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.

Completed further coursework in Arabic, Chinese, Hungarian, Hindi, Turkish and Korean at the intermediate level at the NIH, Kossuth House, Marshall High School & USDA in 2004 and 2009.

Several medical articles (some for publication) in English translated from Spanish, German and Russian.

Patent translations (including office actions, oppositions) covering the languages Swedish, French, Slovak, Russian and Polish, and about 10 lengthy Finnish patents over the last couple of years, were also accomplished. Patent translation into Danish for the EPO and US attorneys involved with litigation.
