How can we balance work and personal life? How much time do/ should we spend looking for clients or on administrative tasks? Is it actually possible to say no to projects because we have not enough time? Is technology a time-saver or it just makes things worse, when we have so many Internet profiles to manage and blogs to read or write?

Working on our own can be overwhelming and it demands a great deal of self-discipline and focus.

Time management is an essential part of the freelancer’s life.

People who signed up for this focus group:

The topic is very important, as balancing job/personal life should be well balanced. I would like to know from other people how they manage.

I'd like to attend this session. Time management is of utmost importance for translators but trying to balance work and personal life is not easy. I'm sure this will be an enlightewning discussion.

Student - Bachelor degree in Translation, occasional translation, family life, I have trouble dealing with contracts coming in at 17:00 and to be returned at 20:00! I don't want to refuse them because I don't want to loose the opportunities but I need tips from experienced people.

I am a freelancer and a mother of two, and wife to one ;) This means I have to cook, clean, wash, and also translate and research terminology, and administer my business, and sometimes relax :) Any advise will be helpful on getting better organized!

To see if people have time management practices that work for them and I could try out and learn what other people's challenges are in this respect.

Interesting topic. I've had some trouble learning to say no, but I've realized it's essential if you want to keep any kind of balance between work and your personal life. Maybe not something you want to do as a beginner or when working with your best client, but it's okay to say no to agencies every once in a while, they will understand and have other translators on call.
