Mir wurden heute durch meinen Arbeitgeber Essensmarken in Form von Restaurantschecks ausgehändigt. Hierzu bestätige ich das Nachstehende:
• Mir ist bekannt, dass Restaurantschecks nur dem Erwerb arbeitstäglicher Mahlzeiten durch den Arbeitnehmer dienen und dass der Erwerb von Mahlzeiten mittels Restaurantschecks steuerlich begünstigt ist, da die mittels der Restaurantschecks erworbenen Mahlzeiten nicht mit dem *Verrechnungswert* der Restaurantschecks, sondern mit dem niedrigeren Sachbezugswert zu bewerten sind.

Looks to me like 'face value', could someone confirm this or suggest something else please? Thanks for the help.

From the context it seems to me that this is the meaning i.e. if the meal voucher is printed with a value of EUR 5.00 and buys you EUR 5.00 of food, this is the "face value", the normal term in the UK (I can't say if this term is used in other English-speaking countries). It is "steuerlich beguenstigt" for the reason that Michael explains - the tax office deems the voucher to have a lower value as benefit in kind and this is the value on which the recipient pays tax.

There are many examples with the expression, didn't put any because I didn't find anything that would be nearly in the same context with yours, and I wasn't sure if you'd find that of any help.. But basically "adjusted amount" does mean a difference (a minus) between two amounts, as it is in these examples:

agree  Matthew Fisher (X): In the US, we also speak of the face value of a restaurant voucher. It's understood that the voucher was purchased at a discount, thus the value of the non-monetary remuneration is less than the face value.
