Is there a way to import only certain pages of a Word document into MemoQ, like the way only certain cells of an Excel file can be imported?

Styles or hidden text Mar 9, 2017

One way to exclude text is to set it to hidden (Font -> Effects -> Hidden). By default, MemoQ will not import hidden text.

Another way is to use named styles, then exclude them in a MemoQ import filter, using the style name defined in Word.

Hello John,

The only way to do this for Word documents is to mark non-translatable text with Hidden font attribute. As Thomas said, memoQ can also ignore text marked with tw4winExternal style or a custom style, but in practice you will need to restore original styles in the final translated document and this is a lot of work unless you are dealing with a very simple document.

So hidden text is the only option.

If you only have a couple of pages to hide, it will be easier to select text on these pages, hit CTRL+SHIFT+H (shortcut for hiding/unhiding selected text) or check Hidden box in the Font dialogue, import the document, and remember to unhide this text after generating the target document.

If you have to hide a number of pages, it is easier to highlight them with some color, e.g. red, and then use Hide / Unhide Text tool (part of TransTools for Word add-in). This free tool can hide text formatted with a certain highlight color or font color, or, alternatively, hide everything except the text formatted with a certain color. Use Hide / Unhide Text tool, select "Hide colored text only" (second option), select "Highlight Color: Red" from the dropdown list next to the option, and then press Continue button. This will hide the text highlighted in red from memoQ. Import the document and translate. After the target document is generated, use the same tool, choose the third option ("Unhide everything") and press Continue to unhide previously hidden text.
