Hi!

I will probably start working for a translation agency, by doing online interpretation. I have always worked as a simultaneous (in a booth), consecutive or liason interpreter, but not online. I should provide tham with a price based on:

" Rate per hour, for telephone and video interpretation "

How much to charge, taking into account it's an agency? Thanks!

I did it only a few times when one of the parties was incarcerated. (Video conference) I charged them the same rate as for regular interpreting --3 hrs minimum.

Telephone interpreting is usually paid at $60-80/hr. I would set half an hour minimum.

Large million dollar corporations are springing up using optimal technology for remote interpreting. The objective is to pay interpreters as little as possible and for the corporations themselves to really cash in. For example, in one company, the interpreter is paid $0.35 a minute, but that interpretation company charges its clients 4.00 USD per minute .
Most remote companies charge by the minute. A good rate paid by US companies is 0.55 a minute.

I did VRI for a while. The company wanted me to "look good" with a certain background. Then, the calls might or might not come. I was only paid for each minute of call time, not for the hours I might be properly sitting at my desk (" logged in").

I would say be very careful. If you find someone to pay you what the previous person mentions, let me know!
I am a certified interpreter and charge what she says for on site, in person legal appointments.
