Hello,
Please excuse the question, but I am new to Wordfast Pro and have no idea how to deal with this.
I have a .pdf document ready to be cleaned but cannot find the way to do it in this version of Wordfast...

I would really appreciate any help!

Dear Agnieszka,
Please go to "File" menu and select "Save Translated File". This will create a doc file not a pdf. (Actually, Wordfast Pro convert the pdf into doc when you first open it for translation.)
Once you get the translated doc, you can convert it back into pdf in any free tool, or you can just send the doc to your agency if they have more to do before converting.
I hope this helps.

Hi,
This topic is very interesting to me, too - I'm about to start translating a text delivered to me in pdf. So far, I thought WordFast Pro does not support pdf files, that's why I immediately converted my file into doc without even trying to open it in WFP.
Now, Yasmin, you say that WFP does support pdf ("Wordfast Pro convert the pdf into doc when you first open it for translation") - I wasn't aware of that! Anyway, I now tried to open my pdf file directly with WFP, but (as ... See more Hi,

Now, Yasmin, you say that WFP does support pdf ("Wordfast Pro convert the pdf into doc when you first open it for translation") - I wasn't aware of that! Anyway, I now tried to open my pdf file directly with WFP, but (as somehow expected) I received an error message that the file format is not supported.
Are there any particular steps I have to follow to be able to open a pdf with WFP - or do I indeed have to convert it first into doc?
Am thankful for any advice!

Dear Peggy,
As you know, mentioning your WFP version and operating system is very important for receiving an accurate answer. PDF support is a Windows feature only and available in newer versions of Wordfast Pro. You can download and install the latest version of Wordfast Professional available at:
http://www.wordfast.com/store_download.html
I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Hi Yasmin,
Many thanks for your reply.
When I proceed according to your instructions my translation is indeed saved as .doc but automatically converted into .pdf when I open it. My problem still stays the same - saved document is in both languages, source and target. It is like you would put together 2 documents on a transparent film. You can see that the source text that is overwritten with the target text in the saved .pdf document.

What am I doing wrong? Am I omitting some steps that should be taken before saving?
My last version of Wordfast was a simple add-on to a MS Office application, so working with WP is a novelty to me.

Dear Agnieszka,
If fact, I failed to follow you. Wordfast Pro will NOT convert the file back to PDF. Could that be that you are using Wordfast Classic. Could you please let me know the one-two-three steps you are following exactly for translating this file. Thanks in advance!

Dear Yasmin,
It is definitely WPro.
1. I opened a .pdf document in Wordfast
2. translated it segment by segment
3. comitted to TM
4. saved as translated file
The file has been saved as .pdf_PL.doc and when I open it, it opens Word and shortly after gets open in Adobe Acrobat - it has probably more to do with Acrobat than Wordfast.
I opened the file in Word by right clicking the file and selecting Word manually. After numerous attempts to solve the problem I realised that my translated document has two "layers". One is my target text in Word format, and the other consists of .pdf objects with the source text (in the form of one page each), covering over my target - in the effect I had one text over the other.
I tried different things and in the end discovered, than if I select a .pdf object and delete it, I will have my source text left. It took me a long time but I got there in the end
Where did I go wrong? Any ideas?
Best regards,
Agnieszka | |

WFPRO 2.4.0.1 : Converting problem with PDF. | Nov 4, 2010 |
When I try to open a PDF file I get the following error message: THERE WAS A PROBLEM WHILE CONVERTING PDF DOCUMENT TO WORD FILE
It is strange because this wordfast version support the pdf format.
Somebody can tell me if this depending from wordfast settings or from pdf-file settings?
thanking in advance.
