Hi experts,
We have a useful Track Change command in MS Word which enables us to know the changes made to a Word document as the changed text is shown in a different color. Further, there is a Comparison command which helps in comparing two documents and ascertaining the changes.

Could you plz. tell me if this is possible in TXML files? Sometimes, I translate a file and send it to an editor/proofreader (of course, the agency guides me to send the translated document to a particular person for this purpose). The editor does his job and sends the edited/proofread file to the agency and also sends me a copy of the same. I am curious to know what changes he has made but it is not very easy like MS Word files.
Is there a convenient, useful and fast method to know about it?

Namaste Chopra,
I do not know whether TXML format shows changes but you can always use MS Word to make a comparison between 2 versions of essentially the same document. This will show all differences between the 2 versions in the same way as Track changes.

Dear Chopra,
As Michael suggested, you can convert both TXML files, the one you translated and the one you received from the editor into Word DOCs and use the usual MS Word "Compare" feature.
Even if you do not have the source DOC to be able to get the target DOC or if your files in other formats (e.g XLS, PPT, etc.), you can get a DOC by clicking on the WFP toolbar button "Preview in MS Word" and saving the generated DOCs in a know location. In this way, you will be able to get two DOC files to "Compare" in MS Word and know the differences between your translation and the received edits.
I hope this helps.

In addition to the replies above, I am mentioning another a workaround for those who prefer to Edit/Proofread in MS Word using the Track Changes feature:
Step No 1:
- Download and install the latest version of Wordfast Classic (even the demo version).
- Open *a copy of* the WFP TXML in MS Word.
- Press Alt+Down or the "Next Segment" toolbar button.

- Click "OK" for the message asking if you want to "Convert this TXML file to a DOC segmented file". Once you receive the confirmation message, close MS Word.
- Open the TXML file in WF Pro. From the "File" menu, select "Save Translated File".
- Open the target DOC in WF Classic, press Alt+Down once and then close using [Shift+]Alt+End
- Save the DOC file.
Step No 2:
- Use the MS Word "Track Changes" feature to edit the translation in the MS Word "segmented" DOC you generated (or ask your editor/proofreader to do).
- When you finish, accept all changes.
Step No 3:
- Use WF Classic > Tools > Clean-up and answer affirmatively to the message asking you if you want to update the TM. Of course, this requires you to select/create a TM first.
I hope this helps.

when I press the "Preview in MS Word" button on the toolbar, it does not produce any Word document which I can save for the purpose of comparison.
The agency does not send me Word documents, instead it sends me only the txml files. If it sends me the Word files also from which the txml files have been made, it would have been easy for me to get the Word files by clicking "Save translated as" but I don't get the Word files.
